WIRED Japan explores the future of quantum computing at the Open Quantum Institute
10th February 2025

Last week, as part of their upcoming special issue, Quantumpedia 2030: Quantum Computing and Beyond, the editorial team of WIRED Japan visited the Open Quantum Institute (OQI) to find out about our mission towards developing real-world quantum computing applications for the benefit of humanity.
WIRED Japan is a tech culture media publication originally founded in the U.S. in 1993, and has since expanded globally—focusing on the impact and shaping of emerging technologies. During their visit to OQI, they engaged with our coordination team to explore core initiatives—advancing capacity building, shaping multilateral governance, and driving equitable quantum computing development.
The WIRED team gained insights into OQI’s efforts to harness quantum computing for the benefit of society. The upcoming feature will highlight our rich catalogue of activities, including hackathons and the Quantum Diplomacy Game played across multiple continents in 2025, outline our growing portfolio of use cases working towards accelerating the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and showcase our contributions towards developing multilateral governance in quantum computing.
This feature will align with the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQST) and will be presented at Miraikan, Japan’s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, alongside a new quantum computing exhibit.
Stay tuned for WIRED Japan’s upcoming issue—exploring the future of quantum technology and its impact on society and culture, to discover more about what we are doing at OQI throughout, and beyond, 2025!
