Anticipating OQI’s next phase

The Open Quantum Institute (OQI) – an initiative hosted by CERN, born at GESDA and supported by UBS – will hold an interactive workshop on 15 October as part of the GESDA Summit 2026 at Palexpo, Geneva.

OQI is a multilateral governance initiative that champions global, equitable and inclusive access to quantum computing and creates pathways to realise this vision. As a novel science diplomacy instrument, OQI offers a neutral space for international collaboration between research, diplomacy, the private sector and philanthropy stakeholders to foster the development of quantum computing for the benefit of humanity.

During its pilot phase (2024–2026), OQI has supported 20 quantum computing use cases tackling real-world challenges supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, organised hackathons that brought in new talent and ideas, and opened up quantum diplomacy as a space for dialogue across sectors and borders.

With OQI’s pilot phase concluding in December 2026, the workshop will take stock of these achievements and use lessons learned to open the floor for participants to look ahead and help design the institute’s next phase. External collaborators will also have the opportunity to showcase complementary work, helping shape a richer, more connected vision for OQI’s post-pilot phase. If you’re part of the OQI community, you’re warmly welcomed to join this invite-only workshop. Please contact us at oqi.info@cern.ch to request an invitation
