HOW COULD QUANTUM HELP:
The role of the intrinsically disordered Amyloid Beta protein in Alzheimer’s disease, and its precise interaction with transition metal ions remains poorly understood. Traditional computational methods have struggled with this problem due to it being a classically computationally intensive task, and due to poor scaling. Quantum simulation could address these challenges by combining fragmentation techniques with quantum computing, and by using generalized superfast encoding to efficiently map fermionic Hamiltonians to qubit Hamiltonians.
