OQI participates in FAO’s Dialogue on Digital Agriculture and AI Innovation
8th May 2025

From 28-30 April, Francesca Schiavello, Applications Advisor at the Open Quantum Institute (OQI), took part in the Dialogue on Digital Agriculture and AI Innovation for the global agrifood systems transformation, hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The workshop brought together a diverse range of experts, innovators, policymakers and researchers to shape the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agriculture and food systems.
Participants spanning UN organisations, startups, NGOs, and private organisations exchanged ideas and engaged in discussions on how best to integrate AI into agricultural practices and projects. Key discussions focused on the governance frameworks needed to ensure the responsible use of AI in agriculture, with an emphasis on food security and ethical innovation.
During the workshop, participants explored the governance systems required for harnessing responsible AI alongside enhancing food security–identifying a set of framework criteria to promote ethical and responsible use of AI, and mapping the key factors involved in defining the future of agrifood systems.
“It is great to be part of these conversations and to be representing OQI,” explained Francesca. “Although quantum computing wasn’t directly addressed during the workshop, it was a valuable opportunity to hear from people who have experience in creating projects to tackle the SDGs, and to incorporate their knowledge in our work towards developing SDG-focused quantum computing use cases to address global challenges.”
We look forward to continuing these conversations with fellow workshop participants who share OQI’s values and objectives in accelerating the achievement of the SDGs.
