On 7th April 2025, Tim Smith, Coordinator of the Open Quantum Institute (OQI), participated in the Responsible Quantum Technologies Workshop, hosted by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) at the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS).
The workshop brought together leaders from industry, education, policymakers and academia to foster dialogue on the responsible development of quantum technologies. During his talk, Tim showcased OQI’s work towards shaping quantum computing for the benefit of society–highlighting some key areas of our work, including:
- Fostering international collaboration through our growing global community to address global challenges collectively and mitigating the negative impacts of the developing technology.
- Supporting the development of SDG-focused quantum computing use cases that address real-world global challenges.
- Capacity building through educational initiatives such as the OQI Hackathon in a Box and the Quantum Diplomacy Game.
- Developing regulatory frameworks and policies for quantum computing in anticipation of the technology being realised.
Through these efforts, OQI continues to demonstrate how quantum computing can be developed responsibly and inclusively to benefit society as a whole. We look forward to our continued collaboration with KIT as a member of OQI!
