OQI recently took part in Q-Expo 2025, hosted by the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC) and co-organised with Quantum Delta NL (QDNL) as part of Quantum Meets ‘25. Taking place from 14-15 May, the event gathered the global quantum ecosystem–from industry leaders, to researchers and policymakers—to explore the potential of quantum computing and technology.
Dr. Mira Wolf-Bauwens, Head of Initiatives Development at GESDA, and working closely with OQI, took part in a panel discussion with Sir Peter Knight (Chair of the UK National Quantum Technology Programme Strategic Advisory Board and Co-chair of the International Year of Quantum), moderated by Gillian Makamara (Project Officer, International Telecommunication Union and member of the IYQ Steering Committee), exploring quantum diplomacy and the role of collaboration in developing quantum technologies. The discussion highlighted key areas to examine—such as the need and means of democratising access to quantum technologies and the importance of driving international collaboration to ensure that quantum advancements are beneficial to all, not just a few.
Mira called on the audience—consisting of established quantum companies, start-ups, investors and policymakers—to “walk the talk” and commit resources, share knowledge and provide the enabling conditions for a responsible development and use of quantum technologies. She emphasised that the necessary actions must start at the policy level—given that providing the respective policy frameworks (for example through national quantum strategies) is an enabling condition for accelerating the road to quantum advantage.
These discussions complemented those of the panel exploring the next generation in national quantum strategies, where Urbasi Sinha (Professor at Raman Research Institute and OQI Advisory Committee member) spoke on behalf of India’s National Quantum Mission.
Also representing OQI at Q-Expo was Martin Gastal, Capacity Building and Partnership Lead at OQI, who engaged with key industry stakeholders to explore new opportunities for collaboration—aiming to strengthen capacity building and continue to grow our global quantum computing community.
As we celebrate the IYQ in 2025 and look ahead to the future, OQI remains committed to advancing global collaboration to ensure quantum computing is developed inclusively and equitably—for the benefit of all.
