Exploring quantum diplomacy at Africa Quantum Summit

The Africa Quantum Summit took place 4-5 December 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, exploring key pillars shaping Africa’s quantum future. The event covered key topics such as quantum diplomacy, education, industry and research.

During the first day of the Summit, participants had the opportunity to take part in playing the Quantum Diplomacy Game. which was facilitated by Audrey Himmer (OQI Capacity Building Project Manager).

The game immerses participants into a future fictional scenario, where large-scale quantum computing has been achieved, but the technology is inaccessible for most. Each participant is given a character, taking on the role of scientists, policymakers and industry leaders. Placing multilateral governance at the forefront, the game aims to raise awareness and anticipation of the geopolitical implications of quantum computing as an emerging technology.
