In June, OQI participated in Quantum Korea, an international event bringing together global researchers, industry leaders, government representatives and the public, to showcase and explore the latest trends in the quantum ecosystem.
Mira Wolf-Bauwens (Head of Initiatives Development at GESDA, Advisor to OQI) took part in a panel organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD-OCDE), discussing responsible quantum ecosystems.
Joining her on the panel were Brad Kim (Chief Quantum Officer, Megazone Cloud), Barry Sanders (Professor and Scientific Director of Quantum City, University of Calgary and member of OQI’s Advisory Committee) and Zeki Seskir (Doctoral Researcher at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), member of OQI’s Educational Consortium).
Discussions focused on ways to develop social and economic governance in the global quantum ecosystem. Panelists also explored how to nurture quantum ecosystems while striking a balance between national priorities and international collaboration. OQI was highlighted as an example of this in action – showcasing our work towards driving inclusive and accessible quantum technology.
Key themes explored included:
- How to ensure quantum innovation is done responsibly
- Methods of nurturing and supporing the next generation of quantum experts
- How to create stronger research networks to advance the development of quantum technology
A series of other events also took place alongside Quantum Korea, including the International Year of Quantum (IYQ) Global Event: Communicating Quantum Science and Technology to Public, hosted at Yonsei University – celebrating the IYQ and the importance of effective science communication. During the event, Zeki Seskir gave a talk outlining why outreach in research is necessary for future quantum technology advancements and the importance of building public trust.
