Pakistan hosts first-ever quantum hackathon to tackle global challenges

10th February 2026

From 6-8 February, Pakistan’s first quantum computing hackathon took place at the National Centre of Physics in Islamabad!

Hosted in collaboration with PIEAS and the National Institute of Lasers and Optronics (NILOP) and supported by OQI, the hackathon brought together over 45 students from across Pakistan. Students worked together to develop ideas for how quantum computing could be used to address global challenges – such as healthcare and flood predictions – and accelerate progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Congratulations to the winning team, all participants and everyone involved in the success of the event!  We look forward to our ongoing collaboration as we work towards ensuring that quantum computing is developed for the benefit of everyone.
