Demonstrating open science for global impact at QSTSD 2025
19th December 2025
At the International Conference on Quantum Science and Technology for Sustainable Development (QSTSD) 2025, hosted by Khalifa University in collaboration with New York University Abu Dhabi, and in partnership with UNESCO and the American Physical Society (APS), global leaders gathered to explore how quantum technologies can accelerate progress toward sustainable development.
Representing OQI, Martin Gastal (OQI Partnerships and Capacity Building Lead), delivered a keynote introducing OQI as a model of how an open science initiative can meaningfully contribute to this mission. His presentation highlighted OQI’s four main pillars of work, in particular our efforts in:
- Developing quantum computing use cases aiming to address global challenges and accelerate the achievement of the SDGs.
- Fostering industry collaborations for equitable access to quantum computing.
- Capacity building activities such as hackathons, the Quantum Diplomacy Game and regional events worldwide.
- Shaping the multilateral governance of the technology before it is available.
OQI’s participation at QSTSD reflects our ongoing commitment to shaping the development of quantum computing for the benefit of society.
