SDGs
IMPACT/CONTEXT:
Enhanced understanding and analysis of genetic information are critical for the development of personalised medicine, which can lead to more effective and tailored healthcare solutions. Faster and more efficient genome analysis can also accelerate advancements in fields like evolutionary biology, improving our understanding of disease mechanisms and potentially leading to breakthroughs in disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
HOW COULD QUANTUM HELP:
Quantum and quantum-inspired optimisation techniques present a new frontier in genome assembly, promising to handle the substantial data volumes typical in genomics with greater efficiency. By demonstrating the successful assembly of genomes using both simulated and real data, this approach could significantly improve genetic analysis, impacting medical research and healthcare services.
