OQI’s Educational Consortium shapes capacity building activities for 2025
10 December 2024
On December 3 2024, over 35 members of the OQI Educational Consortium gathered to discuss OQI’s capacity building strategy for 2025 and how we are collaboratively aligning with the global activities planned during the International Year of Quantum (IYQ).
The consortium was created to establish a network of networks—bringing together domain experts, quantum experts and diplomatic stakeholders. The goal is to collaboratively co-shape and implement best practices for quantum technology and enable the development of future quantum ecosystems, while respecting sovereignty and local innovation and ensuring that quantum-underserved geographies have a voice in co-shaping global tech policies.
Last week, the consortium outlined and agreed on OQI’s key efforts for advancing capacity building—including the collaborative support and work of the consortium, OQI-supported hackathons, training for hackathon participants, community events, internship programmes and the launch of OQI’s Quantum Diplomacy Game. Throughout the IYQ, the consortium will focus its efforts primarily on two target groups: graduate-level researchers and developers from quantum-underserved geographies, and policymakers. These activities will be expanded and tailored to strengthen regional activities across five continents throughout 2025–demonstrating our continued support for the IYQ.
